All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders

Book 52/30.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

What a strange ass book about an ancient society of witches and a hipster technological startup that go to war in order to prevent the world from tearing itself apart.

All the Birds in the Sky is a novel centered on Patricia who is a witch, and Laurence who is the epitome of a science genius, building his own two-second time machine in middle school. We stay with Patricia and Laurence through their childhood and into their adult life in this tale about the power of both nature and science wrapped up in a surface story of witches and climate change. Told ya it’s a strange-ass book πŸ˜… Patricia, as a witch who can talk to animals, is an embodiment of nature and Laurence, as a technological genius, is an embodiment of science. These two seem like complete opposites and yet their lives are forced together, often at their reluctance.

I am not the biggest Sci-Fi fan, both with films and books, and have never watched Star Wars, Star Trek or any of those hugely popular Sci-Fi franchises. The only Sc-Fi book I can recall reading was The Martian by Andy Weir and it was a major 5 star read 🀩 All the Birds in the Sky, on the other hand, was a 3 star read that could have been a 2 star read were it not for the fact that it is a short book that started well. Because towards the end of the book the plot becomes batshit crazy, and not in a good way πŸ₯΄ I only finished this out of obligation, constantly keeping an eye on how much longer was left in the book, hoping to get to the end faster not because I really cared about the outcome, but to be done with it.
