We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Book 16/30.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I joined Goodreads in April 2015 and added We Were Liars to my Want to Read shelf in August, making it one of the OG books on my TBR 🤓

Here we are almost 9 years later, and given that Young Adult is my second favourite genre (behind Romance, before Mystery & Thriller) I was absofuckinglutely excited to FINALLY read this. Which is why it absolutely sucks that it ended up being an average 3 star read that could have easily been a 2 star read 😩

I really struggled to get into this book. It did not draw me in like I was certain it would and I blame the writing style for that as it was too choppy and fragmented for my liking. I read the initial third with my fingers crossed that it would start to pick up sooner rather than later, and while it eventually did, the story still fell short of my expectations. I loved the twist at the end though!! I totally did not see it coming and is the sole reason I rated this 3 stars rather than the 2 I was initially planning on. I also liked the use of fairy tales to describe certain situations in the FMC’s life.

But, can someone please explain to me how exactly they were liars. Kthxbye.
