Book 23/30.
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Another reread 😅
I first read Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything in 2015 and rated it 5 stars. I turned 37 on August 3rd and am currently on a journey to ‘Eat. Pray. Love.’ my way into 38 as that will be a special age because it is a combo of mine and my mum’s birthdates 🥺
38 is gonna be a big year for me🕯️and I wanna show up for it prepared AF, which made this the perfect book to (re)read for the first book of my 37th year 🤩🤓
So imagine my disappointment that this ended up being an average 3 star read the second time around 🥴
There is still a lot of wisdom in this memoir, but nine years later I could not help but notice that Elizabeth Gilbert is a little… well, silly. Or, as one Goodreads reviewer put it:
In the end the overall effect was rather like sitting at a party listening to someone tell a long involved story all about themselves, and you’re alternately annoyed and fascinated and you want to get up and leave but she’s just so entertaining that you keep telling yourself you’ll leave in the next minute–and so you end up sticking through the whole thing.
