Book 32/30.
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I was in Diani for 5 nights in October so of course I had to read a quintessential beach read at the beach 🤩🤓
More than that, I was curious to know what it is about The Summer I Turned Pretty that features so many Taylor Swift songs, including This Love (Taylor’s Version) that appeared in the trailer for the TV adaptation well over a year before #1989TaylorsVersion was released.
Every year Isabel spends a perfect summer at her family friends’ house. There’s the swimming pool at night, the private stretch of sandy beach… and the two boys. Unavailable, aloof Conrad – who she’s been in love with forever – and friendly Jeremiah, the only one who’s ever really paid her any attention. But this year something is different.
This was just okay. There may have been no emotional punch and no compelling conflict, but it made for an easy breezy beach read. That said, I am sooo over Young Adult books with a love triangle involving two brothers. It was interesting with The Vampire Diaries (more so because of the TV adaptation) but now it is extremely overdone and, worse than that, icky.
