Mental Health Awareness Month

For anyone who may not be aware, May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Also referred to as ‘Mental Health Month’, it has been observed in May in the United States since 1949, reaching millions of people in the United States through the media, local events, and screenings. With time the month has shifted from being observed in just the United States to being observed the world over.

Since May 2020 I have been taking a step back from the blog during Mental Health Awareness Month to use it as a platform to share guest posts from people who struggle with their mental health like I do to:

  1. Show others that they are truly not alone.
  2. Add more voices to the fight to destigmatise conversations around mental health because every mind matters.

In 2020 I put up four guest posts (Wanjiru Mugenda, Nyambura Kinyanjui, Murage Macharia and Warimi Karogo) while in 2021 I put up three guest posts (Soraya, Calm Wildness and DawnMercy). I did not put up any guest posts in 2022 and 2024, but in 2023 I put up three posts of my own (Cracks, Crashing Down and Lost) as at the time I had been mostly AWOL from the blog for two years. This year I am going back to basics by putting up guest posts, but I am switching it up by having a series of posts from the contributors of my International Day of Happiness post (Raha Jipe Mwenyewe) rather than having singular posts by solo contributors. On that note, if you would like to contribute to this month’s guest posts feel free to email me on lwiletheleo@gmail.com or DM me on Instagram/Facebook/Twitter (I’mma call it that until the day I die 😅).

Happy new month ✨ May you have a happy and healthy Mental Health Month 💚
