Did you know that August is National Romance Month? Thought I would hit you with that fun fact this last day of birth month.
Did you also know that Nora Roberts was the first author to be inducted into the Romance Writers of America (RWA) Hall of Fame? In 1997 she was awarded the RWA Lifetime Achievement Award, which in 2008 was renamed the RWA Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award. As of 2012, she has won an unprecedented 21 of the RWA’s RITA Awards, the highest honour given in the romance genre. She is, unapologetically, my favourite writer of all time.
Between 2015 and 2017 I took part in a global reading challenge, reading at least 52 books a year. I opted out this year as the prompts were not particularly interesting. And following the death of my mum in December I was unwilling to participate in anything that would ultimately feel like a chore.
The challenge presents 52 varying book prompts to help diversify and expand your reading. This drew me in as I tend to gravitate towards three genres – Romance, Young Adult and Mystery/Thriller. In that order. Romance is my favourite genre. I cannot help it, I am such a hopeless romantic. Which is why from 2016 a Ms. Roberts novel is always my inaugural read, and the more of her books I can work into a challenge, the better.
I had never read any of her novels before my second/third year in university. Now I cannot count how many I have read since and I love that I still have a long way to go. Her books are like decadent treats for me that I savour so deliciously, pacing myself yet gobbling them up at the same time.
As usual, this gets all the 5 stars from me.
