Book 25/30.
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
I have read many boring-AF 1-star books in my life but this is without a doubt the most BORING-AF 1-STAR book of them all!! Seriously!! This is THE MOST BORING BOOK I HAVE EVER READ IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!! It’s taken me 3 weeks to finish it but it feels like 3 years!!!
I should have DNFd this but I didn’t because:
1) It took me two weeks to get halfway through the book and by then I felt like too much time had passed and I had already read half the book so it felt rather unnecessary to give up then.
2) It’s Joyce Carol Oates. I’ve heard of her but had never read any of her books before. And because she has such a strong reputation I was convinced she is one of those authors I need to read at least once in my lifetime. Boy was I wrong about that 😅
My main issue with this book is that it was just too damn slow. And just when you thought things were FINALLY picking up, they fizzled out just as quickly so nothing ever really went anywhere. So soo sooo B.O.R.I.N.G!!!
On that note, this is the last time I will ever be suckered into buying a book just because it has “Oprah’s Book Club” written on the cover. I’ve read too many mediocre books because of that pull and this was absolutely the last straw 🙅♀️
