Book 31/30.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I added Verity to my Goodreads Want to Read shelf on April 28, 2020. 2 years, 5 months later I finally got around to reading it and I 🥳🥳🥳💃💃💃 as Verity was the book I was most excited to read this year. I could not fucking wait to find out if I’m #teammanuscript or #teamletter… or what that even means 😅
I’ve never watched an Alfred Hitchcock film (don’t @ me) but from what I know of his movies, Verity has all the makings of a Hitchcockian thriller. This was creepy AF!! I even had a Verity inspired nightmare the first night I read this 😅
Colleen Hoover expertly leads us on a winding trail of lies and manipulation mixed in with some seriously creepy and suspenseful scenes, I wasn’t even bothered that I didn’t like any of the three main characters. Lowen and Jeremy were simply unlikeable, but Verity is seriously fuuuucccked uuupp!!! Or is she 🤔🤨🧐
All my Goodreads friends who’ve read Verity rated it 5 stars and going in I was certain I would be #team5stars as well, but it fell short 1 star. Whether it fell short on its own merit, or because I was comparing it to the incomparable It Ends with Us I’m not quite sure 😐🤷♀️
That said, Verity is a very clever book and not just because of its twists and turns, but also because of the fear and uncertainty the author creates. And that ending!! Wow!! It took me 3 days to read this and another 3 to decide if I’m #teammanuscript or #teamletter because what an ending 🤯 After much deliberation I’m 100% #teammanuscript and cannot wait to read the bonus chapter in the recently released collector’s edition to ascertain if I’m on the correct team 😅
PS: this was my second CoHo read of the year. I read Ugly Love for book 13 so reading Verity for book 31 was verrrryyy intentional of me because 13.31 #IYKYK 😉
