The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje

Book 34/30.

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

  1. Ugh! This was absofuckinglutely BORING!!! The storyline, the writing, the characters, the setting… everything about The English Patient was A MAJOR SNOOZEFEST 😴
  2. Going from not reading any 1 star book in 2022 to reading two of them in three months <<<<<<<<<<<<<
  3. I have not watched the movie adaptation, but I am 100% certain that this is one of the rare exceptions where the book is not always better 🥴 After all, the film received twelve nominations at the 69th Academy Awards, winning nine, including Best Picture, Best Director for Anthony Minghella, and Best Supporting Actress for Juliette Binoche. It was also the first to receive a Best Editing Oscar for a digitally edited film. Ralph Fiennes, playing the titular character, and Kristin Scott Thomas were Oscar-nominated for their performances. The film also won five BAFTA Awards and two Golden Globes. The British Film Institute ranked The English Patient the 55th-greatest British film of the 20th century. The American Film Institute ranked it the 56th-greatest love story of all time. There is just no way in hell that this snoozefest of a book can hold a candle to its multi-award winning movie.

PS: I started reading this on the day I got tickets for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour in Lyon, France and that is the only good thing I have to say about this book 😐

this is the point where you need a corruption of that snide line that corporate twitter has grown to love, “close your laptop beloved, you have done enough”, read close your book😂
