After finishing my previous book (The Night Circus) a fortnight ago and not reading anything since, I decided that there is no better way to get back into the swing of things than with the Queen of the Goodreads Choice Award for Readers’ Favorite Romance. Emily has won that award four years in a row, a streak that is extra impressive when you consider that she has published just five adult romances in total 🤯🙇♀️
I do not know about you, but I LOVE a funny story. And “You know, funny story… my fiancé left me for his childhood best friend, who just happened to be Miles’s girlfriend. Then somehow, me and Miles ended up living together. But then I accidentally told my ex that Miles and I were dating, so now we are fake dating. Lol. What’s new with you though?” is right up there with the best of them. I was so sure Funny Story was going to be such a fun read, but alas! It ended up being an average 3-star read 😮💨
There was nothing wrong with Funny Story per se, but it did not have the magic of You and Me on Vacation and Book Lovers, the only EmHen books I have rated 4 stars. It was a more satisfying read than Happy Place (easily my least fave of hers), and probably on par with Beach Read, but given it has such a good premise it should have been so much… MORE!
PS: this was the second time I am reading an Emily Henry book on Book Lovers Day 🤓 the first being Book Lovers in 2023, but that was book 38 of my 2023 reading challenge and this is book 24 😅
