Book 8/30.
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Untamed is an exploration of what it means to stop living according to other people’s expectations and start listening to your own instincts. Glennon Doyle reflects on motherhood, divorce and building a new blended family, challenging the idea that being a good mother means sacrificing yourself entirely for your children.
Through her own experiences, she explores what it means to accept yourself fully – imperfections, anger, heartbreak and all – while learning to set boundaries, trust your intuition and make choices that feel true to who you are. At its heart, the book is about letting go of the roles and expectations that keep women from living authentically, and finding the courage to embrace a fuller, freer version of yourself.
Untamed started off realllllllyyyyyy strong and a few chapters in, my sentiment was that reading is magic in sooo many ways, one of them being how books have the ability to find you exactly when you need them. The first two parts – caged and Keys – were so damn good they had me convinced, even though it was a bit early to call it, that Untamed just might be one of those books.
But alas! It all fell apart in part three – free – which unfortunately makes up three quarters of the book. And that is the story of how Untamed went from being a book that could have found me exactly when I needed it to an average 3-star read 🥴😮💨
That said, ChatGPT says my writing style bears similarities to Glennon’s and I gotta say, I absolutely see it 💁♀️
