Me 🤝 reading Colleen Hoover for book 13 (IYKYK 😎)
Part of this book’s synopsis says, “While struggling to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to…” And the minute I read that I was pretty sure the ‘last person’ in question is either her dead husband’s relative or best friend, because WTAF is up with CoHo and these icky relationships in her books 🤔
Regretting You is the story of Morgan and her sixteen-year-old daughter Clara, who could not be more different. Morgan has spent years trying to protect Clara from making the same mistakes she made herself. She became a mother and wife when she was too young and had to put her own dreams aside. Clara, however, wants a life that looks nothing like her mother’s. She sees Morgan as too cautious and predictable and wants the freedom to make her own choices.
Their differences soon make it difficult for them to understand each other. The person who usually keeps the family together is Chris, Morgan’s husband and Clara’s father. But when Chris is involved in a tragic and uncertain accident, their lives are turned upside down. The impact of what happens affects far more than just Morgan and Clara.
As they try to put their lives back together, both mother and daughter begin looking for comfort in unexpected places. Morgan finds support from someone she never thought she would turn to, while Clara becomes close to the boy she has been told to stay away from. As secrets, anger and misunderstandings build, the distance between them grows. Eventually, they have to decide whether they can find their way back to each other.
This was a 4-star read (and one of CoHo’s better books IMO) that explores the complicated relationship between a parent and child, the struggle to grow up and become independent, and the difficult process of moving forward after loss. It captures how complicated life can be when different feelings, hopes and expectations come together and clash. But, sis, expand the world and subsequent dating pool of your characters so they stop fucking with inappropriate people 😮💨
