Book 16/30.
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Me right now trying to figure out how the hell this is the same author who wrote The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry:
This is my third Gabrielle Zevin book, my first being the aforementioned The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry which was a solid 5 star read. I read it in a day and absolutely LOVED everything about it. Last year I read Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac and I really liked that one too and gave it 4 stars. I ended my review of it by saying:
That said it was such a good story and I am looking forward to reading Elsewhere, the other Gabrielle Zevin book in my collection.
Turns out there was nothing to look forward to 😐😒 The premise was interesting enough, and certainly different from anything I’ve come across, but fucking hell it was ruined by the unbelievably pedestrian writing. The writing was so soo sooo bad that it’s even very hard to believe she wrote this just two years before writing Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac! All I can say is fucking hell what a difference two years can make for someone’s craft!!
