Where She Went by Gayle Forman

Book 30/30 🥳

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book 😍😍😍

So I finished Where She Went exactly 1 week ago, but I hadn’t gotten around to writing my review. But since today is Book Lover’s Day, it is the perfect day to put up my review because I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!!!

I read If I Stay last year and I liked it so much that I read it in 24 hours. Going in I had no idea there was a sequel until I finished the book and came across this riveting review from Emily May.

The minute I read Emily’s review I added Where She Went to my Want to Read shelf on Goodreads and put up a story on my Instagram asking for any leads on where I can purchase the book. A few months before I read If I Stay I was informed that some of the secondhand book vendors in town have WhatsApp groups where they sell books. Initially I was not very motivated to join the groups but after reading Emily’s review I joined them with immediate effect. Lol. For real though 😅

On May 1st this year, 10 months after I added Where She Went to my Want to Read shelf, I finally got my hands on a copy but since I’m a big believer in saving the best for last I decided to save it for book 30/30 of my 2021 reading challenge rather than read it immediately.

And wow it was absolutely worth the wait!!! The story alternates between the present day when Adam runs into Mia in New York, and the past where we learn how their relationship broke down after Mia decided to stay. The writing is raw, vulnerable and powerful and I really felt all of Adam’s sadness, despair and anger. Adam is now in my top 5 book boyfriends and I gotta say I saw a lot of my IRL boyfriend in him because my oh my Adam. can. love!! Without giving anything away, I did not expect this book to end like it did and that made me love it even more. Though there’s a part of the story on the Brooklyn Bridge that I really want to talk about because it would have broken my heart if the book ended there, but I cannot do so without giving anything away so I’mma just keep my mouth shut.

I read this in three days and only because I wanted to finish my reading challenge the day before my birthday (August 3rd) otherwise I would have easily read this in 24 hours just like If I Stay.
