Book 13/30.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Before this I’d only read one other Colleen Hoover book, It Ends with Us, in July 2018 and it’s one of my favourite books of all time. Coming across it on social media always makes me smile and I’m highkey jealous of anyone who gets to read IEWU for the first time. So if there’s a book I wanted to read sooo badly as part of my 2022 reading challenge, it was Ugly Love. I specifically wanted it to be my 13th read of the year which is why I ended up buying it at a slightly higher price from the only bookstore that had it in Nairobi at the time. I was expecting to LOVE IT, and while I did enjoy it, it was no It Ends With Us 😅
The main reason I rated this 4 stars and not 5 is because I didn’t connect with Miles and Tate. I feel like all they did was have sex all the damn time, and while the sex scenes were steamy AF!!!, after some time it got tedious to read because I wanted MORE. I understand Miles was not able to give more because of his past, but still. Sex is great and everything, but I need my romance books to have an epic emotional connection between the characters. I want sweeping declarations of love and grand romantic gestures from my romance books. I did not get MORE until the very end and by then it was too little too late.
